It's about skills for life.(News)

With reference to the article on Ndebele initiations (October 24), I find it encouraging that someone refers to the so-called "circumcision customs" as "circumcision schools".

This seems to highlight one aspect of this type of schooling, namely, the surgery, to the total exclusion of all other aspects.

Hopefully the SAHRC will bear this in mind in its recommendations.

Books which deal with the school system of amaXhosa are available. However, accessing this information can only take place through the study of African languages.
